September: A Month of Renewal and Reflection

Origins of the Word September

The word "September" derives from the Latin "septem," meaning "seven." In the early Roman calendar, September was the seventh month of the year. Over time, the Julian calendar, which introduced the Gregorian calendar, shifted the months, making September the ninth month.

Holidays in September

September is rich with holidays and celebrations. Here are a few:

  • Rosh Hashanah: Jewish New Year, celebrated around the world. It marks the beginning of the Jewish calendar year and is a time for introspection, repentance, and hope.

  • Autumn Equinox/Mabon: This day marks the official beginning of autumn, when the day and night are of equal length. It's a time for balance and harmony.

  • Michaelmas: Celebrated on September 29th, Michaelmas honors the Archangel Michael, the patron saint of warriors and protectors. It's a time for courage and strength.

The Weather's Influence on Us

Autumn's changing weather can evoke a variety of emotions. The crisp air, falling leaves, and shorter days can create a sense of nostalgia, reflection, and even melancholy. However, it can also be a time of renewal and inspiration. The changing seasons can symbolize the natural cycle of life and death, and remind us of the impermanence of things.

Astrological Events in September

September is often a month of significant astrological events. Here are a few to watch for:

  • Uranus Retrograde: Uranus, God of the Sky, The King of Chaos/Change, and husband to Gaea, was the father of the Titan Gods. However, Uranus retrograde encourages us to embrace further change. Why? because retrograde means that things are being pulled in the opposite of what we are used to.

We often find that outdated views no longer serve us and are not aligned with our current beliefs, or where we ultimately see ourselves in the future. During this time, take small steps toward implementing changes that eventually will have major effects in the long run. Word of advice: Try to see change as growth and remind your ‘self’ the following, “with comfort comes complacency”.

  • Autumn Equinox: As mentioned earlier, the Autumn Equinox is a significant astrological and overall energy event. It marks a shift in just about everything.—You may even feel like its just time to wind things down. This is a perfect moment to focus on balance and reflection in your life. One may even find journaling your thoughts beneficial— as you will be able to make the grey of emotions/experience, into black and white fact.

Setting Goals for September

With the changing seasons and a fresh start, September is an ideal time to set new goals. Here are a few ideas:

  • Reflect on the past: Take time to reflect on your accomplishments and challenges from the previous year.

  • Set new intentions: What do you want to achieve in the coming months? Set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals.

  • Embrace change: Autumn is a season of change. Embrace this energy and be open to new experiences and opportunities.

So, as we embark on the month of September, let's embrace its unique energy and use it as a time for growth, reflection, and renewal.

Cottage-Core Pic for September

Green as a theme! Check out the matching ceiling! So that a smaller room doesnt feel too closed in, make sure you have access to light— natural, and track lighting! The above image has all of the above options( in the picture only natural light is in use— however you can see track lighting aimed at the shelves). You would be surprised at how congruent use of color can override any feeling of chaos in a room. When confronted with many items of the same color, the eye will naturally focus on the color that is used sparingly in a room. Notice how your eye is directed by the the natural wood in the picture. Card for September

Major Arcana card #7 “The Chariot” from “The Good Tarot” by Collette Baron Reid

Anytime a Major Arcana card comes out to play when I have the intention of peeking in on the energy for a month, lets just say I get the giggles! I am not joking! Why?? Because major arcana cards mean major life change— thus all of the pieces of ones life that seem to be going awry is doing so with reason! Its time to grow!

For September, The Chariot is here to say now is the time, again but louder, NOW IS THE TIME to reach for the stars. Everything has led up to this! And for this card to show up for September? This is just all so poignant. (If as a reader of this paragraph you are asking yourself what in the world is Rachel talking about? Go back and read the beginning of this edition of the Tattler.)

September- a month of change. A month to get ready for a major seasonal shift. A month to get ready for a major energy shift. A month to be pensive and appreciative of Nature, Family, everything above, and below.

Show up for your ‘SELF’ in grand style! Balance will be key while you go through September. Also, don’t neglect your dream journals! With this particular deck, the horses bridles are adorned with Turquoise. A stone said to connect you with your ancestors and higher self.

Be kind to your ‘SELF’! The struggle has been weighing on you for a long, long, time now. But you have not, nor will you, give up on you. Think of it this way, you may not have been invited to the Ball. But you took it upon your ‘SELF’ to say screw that I am going anyway!

Now pat your ‘SELF’ on your back and imagine its me doing that to you. Because I am truly, truly, proud of you. As I am sure everyone in Spirit is too.

Now go get ‘em!
